Shield your mic from echos and room noise with this isolation shield thingy: Isolation Shield*

RECORDING SOFTWARE
- My favourite for editing: Hindenburg Journalist (here's a tour)
- A really good and easy-to-use allrounder: Descript*
- Free Basic: Audacity
- iPad based: Ferrite Recording Studio
If you want to make things sound better in a few clicks, try Levelator. It's free and makes leveling easy...some podcasters say it works miracles.
TRANSCRIPTS & NOTES
Castmagic* is great! It lets you get a transcript and build newsletters, summaries, show notes & marketing content around it.
Even better transcripts (and new AI capabilities): Sonix.ai (referral link gives you more minutes if you sign up)
FOR RECORDING REMOTE CONVERSATIONS
Please watch this lecture to get more recommendations and understand how to approach your recording. If you're also streaming video, Ecamm Live is amazing.

Ready for more fun? OTHER FANCY GEAR I OWN/USE (Beginner podcasters don't need this but you can ask me about it)
- Mixer: Rodecaster Pro
- Headphones: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro
- XLR Microphone: Behringer XM8500 (XLR usually doesn't plug directly into a computer and comes in handy if you choose to record into a mixer, pre-amp or something like the Zoom H5N)
- Recording on the go: Zoom H5N (on Amazon*) or any other handy recorder from Zoom
- The Pro version of Hindenburg Journalist
- My own editor uses Logic Pro
If you want to install the Podcaster or Procaster by Rode on a desk:
- Boom arm: Rode PSA 1
- Shock mount: Rode PSM1
Don't try any others as the weight of these microphones means they require a heavy duty boom and the PSA 1 is your best option. (I tried with a £10 amazon one and cannot recommend.)
